The Crystal Forest Mine is our most popular activity. This large 40 acre open pit surface mine is regarded highly for its abundance of clear crystals that are suitable for jewelry. Quartz crystal clusters, garden rocks, and larger points are also found here on a regular basis. Collecting at this mine is as easy as picking up the crystals exposed on the surface, especially after a good rain. Or, for those who want a little more challenge, they can try their luck at hard rock mining, as there are veins available to you throughout the mine site. 

This trip is around 2.5-3 hours roundtrip, so please plan accordingly.

Avant Mining was founded in 2010 with the purchase of the de Linde wavellite claim in Avant, Arkansas.  One year later Avant had purchased it’s first crystal mine and by the 5th year of operation purchased nearly 12,000 acres of mineral holdings.  Not only focusing on quartz crystals, It’s Arkansas based Mona Lisa Mine is the only gem-quality turquoise mine in the eastern half of the United States.

 Avatar Crystal Mine is located at the end of Forestry Road W37 off Owley Road in Mt Ida AR The road in to the Mine is about 2/3 mile long and takes you back into the Ouachita National Forest where you will find some of the most beautiful Quartz treasures. Avatar Crystal Mine was formerly known as the Arrowhead Mine and operated commercially for many years. Joe and Bee, new proprietors, reopened the mine in March 2021. Both Bee and Joe will happily explain the metaphysical aspects of Crystals and will gladly share their knowledge and experience with you about the treasures you find.
